Latest News!

April 2009: Sams work to be exhibited at Gallery 320, Bethnal Green, London as part of Photmonth 2009: 'There are no memories of you here' has been selected to shown at Gallery 320 during the prestigious international photography festival - Photomonth. Sam is very exited about his chance to exhibit in the newly refurbished gallery, and hopes as many of you as possible will make it along to the gallery in November!

March 2009: The project gets longlisted in the British Journal of Photography's 'Project Assistance Award 2009' The project has been longlisted for the award, which would include a £5000 bursary to further the project, which will be decided upon at the end of 2009. The whole series has been featured on the BJP website here http://www.bjp-online.com/public/showPage.html?page=848307, and two of the images are featured in a double page spread in the March 25th 2009 issue.

February 2009: Sam gets to work on Snow Day 2009! Sam has photographed the sixth image in his photomontage series; 'There are no memories of you here' capturing the winter wonderland of Snow Day. The image will be called 'I could amble through a deserted park and watch through thick snow as you cherished every moment of a cold winter blizzard' Digital Photomontage 2009. The piece can be seen below, along with the rest of the project.

December 2008: Merry Christmas! Sam creates the fifth work in the series: 'I could walk mindlessly through towns and villages strewn with neon Christmas lights and watch as you spread the joy of life to anyone who’d listen,' in the village of Eathorpe in Warwickshire. Sam chose this particular village as every year, during the festive season, every house in the village is lit up by a bigger and bigger array of christmas lights, creating a wonderful christmas wonderland. All proceeds from the grand opening and collections then go to charity.

September 2008: High jinx! After a long break where Sam has been concentrating on other works, he has finally returned to 'There are no memories of you here', creating an entirely new work entitled 'I could breathe in the country air, miles from anyone and anything, and when I exhaled I would fill the air with you'. The work celebrates Autumn in the beautiful countryside of Bedfordshire. Taken from a hilltop, it offers a breathtaking view of the Dunstable Downs, whilst still following the quirky antics of the main character, which have made the work so popular.

December 2007: Sam's work highly commended and exhibited. An image from Sam's series 'There are no memories of you here' has been highly commended in the Warwickshire Art Open, and will be exhibited in Leamington Art Gallery from December 2007 - February 2008. The image: 'I could wander amongst the empty streets and see your face, gleaming with beauty, radiating from each façade as I walked by,' was chosen from around a 1000 entries to be one of the final 30 pieces exhibited.

May 2007: Final image created. Sam has now created the work which will define his ongoing photomontage series 'There are no memories of you here'. It will be named 'But as I stand here facing this cold stone beacon, with day following night and night following day. I’m sorry, there are no memories of you here', and will complete the story of the two characters in the images. The work was shot over two days as the sun was setting so that as the image progresses, the day at one end gives way to night at the other. The image also contains far more photographs than the other works to date, symbolising the great amount of time the character has spent isolated in the vast scene.

February 2007: Good morning Camden Town! Sam has now created his second image in his photomontage series 'There are no memories of you here'. In order to make sure the streets of one of the busiest areas of London were empty, Sam and his model set out at 5 am, but it was worth it as the work looks great and contrasts well with his first image in the series, the award winning 'I could stand staring out to sea, across that flat, blue, twinkling horizon, and never forget that look on your face, that dress you wore, what you said, what you did'.

June 2006: Sam's work exhibited at North Laines Gallery! After winning 'The essence of Brighton and Hove' photography competition, Sam's work will now be exhibited for a further three months in the North Laine Gallery, Brighton.

June 2006: Image wins award! Sam's image 'I could stand staring out to sea, across that flat, blue, twinkling horizon, and never forget that look on your face, that dress you wore, what you said, what you did,' has won the 'Essence of Brighton and Hove' photography competition 2006! It has beaten over 1500 other images by both amateur and professional photographers to the prize, winning Sam £1500 and the chance to exhibit his work in the North Laines Gallery in 2007.

April 2006: Into the final! Sam's photomontage 'I could stand staring out to sea, across that flat, blue, twinkling horizon, and never forget that look on your face, that dress you wore, what you said, what you did,' has been shortlisted in the 'Essence of Brighton and Hove' photography competition. Over 1500 images were entered for the prize, and Sam's work is now in the final 15.

March 2006: The project begins! Sam Johnson has conceived annd begun a series of work named 'There are no memories of you here'. The work is based upon a poem, written by Sam, of the same name. Sam has now created the first work in the piece which will take the name of the first line of the poem 'I could stand staring out to sea, across that flat, blue, twinkling horizon, and never forget that look on your face, that dress you wore, what you said, what you did'.
